Work Related InjuriesNeurological injuries can be life-changing whether they are temporary or permanent.  Many times repetitive stress can cause common work-related injuries. You may find yourself injured on the job. Common work injuries include spine disorders, particularly in the heavy machinery industries, and cumulative trauma from repetitive motions, which can cause Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and tendonitis. Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome can occur from standing on your feet for long periods of time and neck and back pain from poor posture from sitting while working on a computer.

Some injuries occur within a  bang while others develop over time. The most common work-related injuries which are treated at our center are:

1. Trips, Slips, And Falls

One-third of the work-related injuries are tripping, falls, and slips. The injuries include back, head, broken bones, neck injuries, and sprains. Reasons are multiple as wet and oily surfaces can lead to falls. Wrinkled mats or poor lighting and uncovered cables can also lead to these injuries.

2. Being Struck By Or Caught In Moving Machinery

Common in factories with construction tools and other pieces of equipment, which at times are not properly guarded. A body part may get stuck to the flying objects of the machinery leading to severed fingers or crushes arms and hands.

3. Fire And Explosions

Faulty gas lines can frequently lead to fires and explosions which can prove severe to respiratory systems. Such incidents account for 3 percent of the work-related injuries. The injuries include potential disfigurement or varying degrees of burns.

4. Repetitive Stress and Overexertion Injuries

Overexertion at work can lead to crippling and debilitating pain which can impair a person’s capacity to perform at work. Such injuries are increasing with each passing day as the jobs are now more desk oriented. Stress and overexertion often prove fatal for nerves and their functioning.


You may feel pain in your extremities, tingling, numbness, weakness is signs that you may have an issue. It is important to let your employer know of any issues you may be experiencing as a result of your work activities.

When Should You Contact The Doctor?

You should seek treatment immediately after minor pains. The injury might seem minor but it can have long-term consequences. Early treatment is helpful in fast recovery and avoids worsening the situation over time. Some of the symptoms of work-related injuries include back pain or neck pain, headaches, abdominal swelling, dizziness, confusion or forgetfulness, and psychological trauma.


Many of your work-related injuries can be diagnosed using nerve tests such as Electromyography (EMG) and Nerve Conduction Study test (NCS). Through these tests, Dr. Mir can determine the cause of your pain.


Many times these issues can be treated without surgery. You may need therapy to relieve the pain and symptoms you are feeling. It is important that you are aware of your work surroundings and engage in activities to help prevent additional issues. Things such as stretching, physical modalities, and exercise may help keep you from surgery. Surgery may be needed based on the severity of the injury.
